Reflections of Kevin & Katie's Wedding
Kevin and Katie Robar were married September 6, 2019 in Wasilla, Alaska. As I play the wedding's theme song I pause to reflect back on how I remember this wonderful day. In creating the video my goal was to document the event in a way that conveys the joy and laughter as well as the emotional tenderness of the occasion from beginning to end.

My little segment on the news. We were in Roseville attending the 4th of July parade with our Border Collies, Panda and Luna. I asked the Channel 3 cameraman if he'd like to shoot some B-Roll of the dogs wearing their flag bandanas. After doing so he proceeded to interview me.

    I like the AX-53 but have not gotten good stabilization out of it. Even with the "Active" mode enabled, it still is very touchy. Did I have a bad one? Dont know but its not very good for stabilization. Also, if you are on your kayak, get a GoPro. much cheaper and waterproof.

    • @DanChanPiano
      @DanChanPiano 21 день тому

      When looking at the lens, does it float as demonstrated at 2:00 in the video? If not, there is a problem. If it does, then BOSS is engaged and you're getting the best stabilization the camera offers. You must still make a conscious effort to hold the camera as steady as possible. It will not fully compensate for gross shaking or jerky movements. If you were to record, holding the AX53 and any other non-BOSS, but OIS camera, mounted together side by side, I think the comparison would definitely favor BOSS. Regarding video while kayaking, have a look at my video, "Calm Water Kayaking", ua-cam.com/video/x_6qlwGznp4/v-deo.html Here I demonstrate my use of GoPros along with the AX53. GoPros have their place for wide angle shots, but you must have the ability to zoom with a video camera to get the varied types of shots I need while on the water.

    hey Dan! Do you notice a low back background noise (noisy preamp) when you plug in your mic into the 3.5 socket? It sounds more like cars on a highway from a distance. Even if just the cable is plugged into the socket (without the mic), i can hear this noise. Do you have the same problem?

      With camcorders it takes years or even never for manufacturers to refresh to newer models. Very different from the camera market in general. If the video camera serves my purpose, I try not to think in terms of missing out on the latest and greatest. My advice to anyone who used to play music or used shoot video or used to do something else is take that guitar, camera or exercise machine and sit it out right there in everyday plain sight. You'll pick it up and start fiddling with it. It tends to renew your interest and before long it becomes a routine and you'll advance from where you were before.

      I've never used it in your situation, but I would think the ability to focus in on the horn section or go wide for the larger group would be a plus. If you went manual you could also adjust record input , watch the meter for clipping and get the right recording volume in a loud environment.

    This is one of the most refreshing video tutorials about camcorders and how to use them properly, that I've seen in a long time. Once again, I took my trusty Sony HDR PJ790V out of the closet and have the desire to video again. It just sort of takes the joy out of posting videos, when UA-cam messes with the codecs and other settings to suit their policies, not to mention, if you use the wrong PC browser, your already posted videos make not look as you intended upon playback, like they did before you posted them. There is nothing wrong with the videos, it's everything else, it seems.

    A projector, flat white background, and a mostly stationary subject is all you need for any type of Bokeh. That or use an LCD TV behind your subject. Last but not least, buy a blurred pattern backdrop. These methods are old, and sometimes forgotten. The newest way, which still cost a lot is to use Disney new method of a 180° LCD panel on a sound stage run by 3D ai generating software running on the newest Unreal engine with lighting effects. My suggestion for outdoors would be to find a large enough square frame, attach to a C stand, and have a blurred background pattern on one or both sides. Grab some small sand bags, and you have a small, on the go studio (just be mindful of wind).

    Hi, Great video. I have set the stabilisation to Active for 4K@25fps on my AX53. However, as soon as I remove the battery, it goes back to Standard. Is this normal behaviour? I would prefer it stayed as Active since I only shoot in 4K.

    • @DanChanPiano
      @DanChanPiano 4 місяці тому

      My camera retains all user settings after battery changes. I shoot the AX53 in 4k@30fps. For a test and reference, give that setting a go and see if you get the return to default. This would be telling. At least you would know it's a condition of your res/fps setting. If you're stuck with having to change back each time , you could look at it on the positive side. A quick check of all settings before shooting prevents errors. BTW I enjoyed your channel.

      Thanks. I was already in XAVC S 4K@25fps but just tried re-setting to XAVC S 4K@25fps by: File Format>XAVC S 4K> OK..executing...and it seems to stick on Active now, even when removing the battery! Here's to hoping the setting sticks with a longer battery removal. Not quite sure what's caused this. I may have as you suggest unknowingly had some other setting changed or Mode, that prevented retention of the Active Stabilisation. Once again, thanks for your video.@@DanChanPiano

  • @blutey
    @blutey 4 місяці тому

    I have owned camcorders in the past and they all had an internal CR2032 battery required to maintain power and store your settings eg date & time etc, when the main battery was removed. Occasionally the CR2032 battery needed replacing and could be easily accessed behind a small cover and replaced with a new one. However, with the Sony AX53, things are different. You have no access to the small built-in internal battery! The internal battery on my AX53 seems to have come to the end of its life and so settings are no longer retained when you remove the external battery. Anyone else have this problem on the AX53 and found a solution?

    I am happy with this camera, but coming from the XR500VE, I didn't appreciate the tiny LCD display, or the placement of the HDMI port blocking the display from being closed. Seems like they deliberately made things awkward. Thankfully, it takes great video and pictures.

    • @DanChanPiano
      @DanChanPiano 6 місяців тому

      "Seems like they deliberately made things awkward." Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of camera manufacturers? Planned obsolescence, missing features that just happen to be included on the next model up with upgrades that we just can't live without. $$$$$$ Marketing and engineering work hand in hand for companies to keep selling and make profit. It's the way of business. It's the way of the world. We as consumers need to keep on being consumers and there's no use fretting about it. At least that's what I try to tell myself when I get a case of buyer's regret. I've found that with most consumer products, I need to resist the temptation to immediately upgrade. If you wait for a few versions to come out, you'll usually see the features you want and maybe even a price break. At some point, you have to bite but just know there will always be something bigger and better on the horizon.

      @@DanChanPiano Just to confirm, that I meant to say the font size on the display is "tiny". I do have glasses, but only for reading labels, and I refuse to put them on to see the display info. Sony upset me further by trying to mislead me into thinking I would need a new remote control. I wanted to know if the remote from the XR500VE would still work with the AX53, and they kept saying "it is not compatible". The remote works PERFECTLY (every button). I was wise to wait and find out. I don't expect to get lied to when I call these companies, but sadly it seems to be normal now.

    Do you still love this as much as you did when you filmed this? Looking to get a NL 811.

      It's a fine camper and still glad we went with it. Just know that the living space is a camper and not a trailer. Bathroom door is a squeeze even for a not too fat guy. Hallway is a squeeze for two people to pass each other. We stay out of each others way by one sitting at the table or laying in bed while the other works. There are stairs to climb up and down lots of times. You have to crawl in and out of bed and make the bed up while laying on it. Don't know your age or dimensions but elderly might not tolerate these things well. These issues are not specific to NL campers, but all cabovers in general.

    Hoya 55mm Pro-1 Digital UV protector is slim enough that it doesn’t show any vignette. No step up filter needed.

    I own a JVC GYMH 170 and many DSLR but I'm looking for a SONY AX53 because I record a lot of CONCERTS. I want more zoom and clearity than my JVC provides. Thanks DAN by your AMAZING video!! Congrats.

      @@DanChanPiano I will take advantage of your effective suggestions, among other things I own a Panasonic HC-X1500 video camera and I would like to learn how to use it best. Thanks again.
